On March 17th, perhaps the “greenest” day of the year, the Pepsi Center declared that it will be one of the greenest arena in the United States. Home to the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche, the Pepsi Center is located in Denver, Colorado and is owned by Kroenke Sports Enterprises (KSE). On Monday they held a press conference that included Governor Ritter of Colorado, the head of EPA Region 8, George Karl (the head coach of the Nuggets) and various KSE executives. The
press conference was used to introduce an overall theme called “Play Clean” which involves a host of initiatives that the Pepsi Center has either already undertaken or will be undertaking in the future. The initiatives include purchasing Renewable Energy Certificates to offset their electricity usage, Recycling used products, Changing out incandescent lights to compact fluorescent ones and installing Solar Panels. NuEnergen is involved in helping establish the Carbon Footprint for the Pepsi Center via the EPA Climate Leaders program and will be helping with reduction goals in an effort to 1) Offset the entire Carbon Footprint and 2) Reduce the overall emissions. The Governor praised KSE and the Pepsi Center for doing their part in helping the City of Denver with their GreenPrint Denver agenda and the Colorado Climate Action Plan that was spearheaded by Governor Ritter.
