Dirtier Air and Higher Costs Possible if Indian Point Closes
Posted by Merrick on July 21, 2011
The long-term plans surrounding the potential closure of the Indian Point Nuclear Reactor have been the subject of much debate in the past few months. Concerns about the safety of nuclear power have been a hot topic in the months following the disaster in Japan, which has led to increased scrutiny of the domestic nuclear power infrastructure.
Unfortunately, simply closing a plant is not as easy as it might appear, especially for the greater New York area that relies intensively on the 2000 mW produced by Indian Point’s two reactors. The potential repercussions of life after Indian Point was recently discussed in a NY Times article addressing just a few of these concerns.
