Take Me Out to the Ballgame!

The hard working employees of NuEnergen deserve a little break once in a while and what better way to enjoy a day then to enjoy America’s Pastime. The entire NuEnergen Team took a little time last Thursday to breathe some fresh air and take in a ballgame at the New York Mets’ Citi Field.

Despite a smattering of inclement weather, the team loaded up in a Limo-van for our trip from the White Plains Headquarters to the field near Flushing Bay. Fueled by pizza and soda (wink) we all enjoyed a Mets Trivia contest hosted by NuEnergen’s COO Sandy Hamilton, the winner receiving a nice commemorative “NY Mets” wrist watch. It was an interesting competition to say the least as many of our staff have never seen a live baseball game, some only recently read rules of the game, and some are transients from the west side of the nation and are only familiar with the Mets from what they see on the nightly ESPN recap! The finals came down to three of our lovely ladies, and our resident athlete Charles. Alas Charles prevailed and earned himself a new timepiece!

We arrive at Citi Field and proceed to our fantastic field level seats behind the third base side dugout, the pristine emerald green grass nearly close enough to touch. In short order the “Boys of Summer” take the field and entertain the fans with their talent.

Before the bottom of the second inning could commence, the ever present gray clouds let go… within seconds advancing from a sprinkle to a solid rain. We retreated from our field seats up the stairs to seek refuge under the second deck overhang. It being a day game (in threatening weather) with fewer fans in attendance we were afforded our pick of seats. Fortunately the ever-willing Citi Field staff of servers was more than willing to make our stay a pleasant one. After a 40 minute rain delay, play resumed and continued for all of the remaining 8 innings.

The beauty of a baseball game is that its pace provides ample opportunity to socialize and get to know our staff in a more relaxed environment. These bonding opportunities are not only welcomed by a hard working team, but I offer… needed. Businesses are only as good as their people and the bonds they form, and after this rainy Thursday at the ballpark I am comfortable in knowing our “Staff” is becoming more of a team with every passing day.
