Demand Response
Getting Started
- Client enrolls in program & agrees to curtail energy usage during peak demand
- NuEnergen deploys communications & monitoring system, maintains all technology, and administers entire process
- Client receives monthly or quarterly payments, and earns additional payments if a demand event occurs

As demand for electric energy continues to increase, the additional generation capacity to match this demand has not kept pace. When demand peaks, the potential for grid failure has increased significantly over the past several years for when demand peaks. One of the most effective ways to address this issue is asking consumers to reduce their electric demand. This has led to Demand Response programs offered by several ISOs throughout the country that pay commercial and industrial users to curtail their electric loads during these demand peaks.
NuEnergen offers a leading Demand Response program that requires no cost outlay from our clients. Participants have the opportunity to leverage the investment in their facility infrastructure and gain a significant return in the form of rebates from their energy supplier.
Our solution provides ongoing metering and reporting of on-premise electrical utilization as well as grid monitoring. We provide 24/7 alerting of demand events and proactive notifications and forecasts of any grid events to our clients.
More detail about how the our Demand Response program works is available here.
- Clients enroll in the program and are paid a monthly or quarterly dollar amount per kilowatt, based upon the amount of the load they commit to curtail during an emergency. This amount is paid regardless of whether a grid emergency event is actually declared by the system operator. Clients curtail load by either operating an on-site backup generator or lowering their usage by reducing or shutting off specific equipment or building systems.
- Clients are paid additional “energy” payments should an event be called. This is based upon the amount of load actually reduced during the event. This payment will generally more than compensate the client for the fuel used to run a backup generator or other costs incurred responding to the event.
- There are no up-front or out-of-pocket costs to the client. NuEnergen manages the entire process: from initial assessment of curtailable load, through deployment of specific communications and load monitoring systems, and managing payments to the client. The installation and maintenance of these systems is entirely NuEnergen’s responsibility.
- There is no financial penalty or charge of any kind if circumstances prevent the client from responding or only responding partially to an event. Should a partial response occur, payment is based upon the actual load reduction.
- No monthly monitoring fees or data costs are charged.
- An agreement is executed between the client and NuEnergen to govern participation in the program. The length of the contract varies with the state and the region but is typically a one-year minimum. Contract terms are flexible and are reflective of client needs.
